Tour 2
Radovljica – Bled – Radovna – Mojstrana – Slovenski Javornik – Žirovnica – Spodnji Otok – Radovljica
The route runs along less busy side roads, through beautiful nature and small, traditional villages, passing by some of the most breathtaking natural pearls and historical sights, at the foot of the high mountains and alongside the crystal clear rivers. This is the route that will not truly delight. There are many stops you can make along the way; try the famous Bled Cream Cake, refresh yourself in the cold Radovna river, go 700 years back in time or learn all about how modern beekeeping started in this region.
Our cycling begins in Radovljica Old Town (we follow the route marked LG6) from where we descend towards the Sava river and Lancovo. Just after crossing the bridge, turn right in the direction of Bled. A first asphalt, then gravel road will follow the Sava river and take us past Bodešče bridge (we do not cross the bridge) to Ribno bridge which we cross before turning left, and continuing on a gravel road in the direction of the of village Selo pri Bledu. Cycling through the village will bring us straight to Lake Bled, where we can take a rest with the view of an image of a paradise, as Slovenia’s most famous poet, Prešeren, described it.
We continue cycling past Bled-Jezero train station to Zgornje Gorje village, from where we go in the direction of Radovna village. We follow the road along the river until we reach Mojstrana. We can take a long rest here and enjoy lunch in one of the restaurants, or we can visit the Slovenian Alpine Museum, where we can make a virtual climb of Triglav, Slovenia’s highest mountain.
From Mojstrana, we follow the D-2 cycling path in the direction of Jesenice and further on to Slovenski Javornik, where we turn right on to route LG3, towards Lipce and Blejska Dobrava and Moste, where we join the D-2 route again in the direction of Radovljica. We will cycle through picturesque villages and beautiful meadows, located at the bottom of the Karavanke mountains. In Gorica village we embark on the G-2 route, which will bring us back to Radovljica Old Town.
